The fourth largest city in the U.S. today, Houston stands as the number one city in Texas. With a population of over 2 million, the city is home to people coming from different parts of the world mostly Asians, Arabs and Latin Americans. Its numerous academic institutions and strong industries including its major port city are the reasons that make it a multicultural home.

Firstly, the city's academic institutions are notable for their number and diversity catering to different disciplines of study such as science, health and visual and performing arts. These schools also vary in terms of its religious denominations and secular views. There are in fact 17 school districts with over 112 campuses in the city alone that include schools like Rice University which is one of the leading teaching and research universities in the country at present, the University of Houston which is Texas' third largest in terms of public research with branch schools all over the city's Metropolis and the Texas Southern University, a historically significant black university for four years, a few examples. But the city has more district with its visual and performing arts, in particular its active participation in the Theatre.

Second, offer a strong aviation industry, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, transport and tourism jobs with competitive salaries to its residents. Some of these industries are among the Fortune 500 list and areattracted more than 7 million visitors per year. The strongest among them is the energy industry particularly oil and natural gas which has made it into the said list. These include Conoco Phillips, Marathon Oil Corporation, Halliburton, and Apache Corporation. Other industries in the city that have made it into the list are Sysco, Continental Airlines, KBR, Waste Management and Group 1 Automotive.

Lastly, the city Major Port City is responsible for attracting more people particularly in relation to those industries that are located in these areas and also because of its great attraction. One is above the Astrodome, the first indoor domed sports stadium, often referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world," as the first year in 1965. Some oil industry can be found in this area.

Houston is truly a multicultural country, because of its academic institutions and strong industries, some of which started in the main port haveCity. Things like that make Houston unique. It 's definitely worth a visit.
